Baby Needs New Shoes Program

The Flue Tubes are all gone, but you can still help 2926's restoration now by Sponsoring a Brake Shoe!

The Society plans to mount the finished Cab this year and take BOTH Tender AND Engine to Train Day next year. And, of course, ultimately fire her up for the first time in 2015! To meet those lofty, yet possible goals, Baby needs new Brake Shoes!

The Locomotive brake shoes are something we can't custom fabricate ourselves and the originals are pretty much shot. Like the old shoes, the new shoes will be made of cast iron. Therein lies the pricey cost of each shoe - we must contract with a commercial foundry in order to have custom molds designed and built before these unique parts can then be cast.

Help out with this phase of the program and not only will you get honored in posterity on our web-site for your generous contribution, Pres. Hartshorne will sweeten the deal by having YOUR last name stamped on YOUR new brake shoe!

There are basically two types of brake shoes required:

8 Large brake shoes - one behind each massive 80" driver wheel     $1000 per shoe

8 Small brake shoes - two for each of the four trailing-truck wheels    $350 per shoe

8 Big Shoes and 8 Small Shoes SOLD!
