1ST TIME IN DECADES, SANTA FE NO. 2926 MOVES UNDER HER OWN POWER !

Wednesday July 14th, 2021 AT&SF No. 2926 rolled out of her barn under her own power for the first time in decades!   Out of an abundance of caution, CMO Rick Kirby elected to operate the engine using compressed air in order to avoid undue stress in the event any of her drive components were assembled or adjusted incorrectly.   As you will find from viewing the video, the test was a 100% success, clearing the way for the real deal next week - fire in her belly and running under steam.

Born in May 1944 the AT&SF 2926 ran a million miles in the American Southwest before being retired in an Albuquerque City park in 1953.   Rescued from that park in 2000 the giant steam locomotive is almost finished being restored to operation by the all-volunteer crew of the New Mexico Steam Locomotive and Railroad Historical Society.

WILL THERE BE AN OPEN HOUSE THIS YEAR ?

A MONSOON OF WATERCOLORS

La Galleria @ The Shaffer
103 Main Street - C, Mountainair, NM 87036

The show runs through August and opens 4-7 PM.   You've probably seen some of it before.   Gayle has generously provided a new and unique watercolor featuring the 2926 each year that is used as our Christmas card for the NMSL&RHS.   The Shaffer restaurant next door (which includes more of Gayle's work on the ceiling) is suggested as a great place to eat so you don't drive home hungry.
