Visitors Welcome
9:00 AM - 2:00 PM

ATTENTION VISITORS!

The possibilities exist that we may close early or not open at all due to extreme heat or otherwise foul weather. Therefore, it is recommended that you call (505) 246-2926 on the day you plan to visit to insure we are in operation when you arrive.

Please also note that sandals, opened-toe shoes and high-heels are NOT recommended for footwear while visiting the site due to the many uneven walking surfaces and other hazards in our area.

ABOUT US:   Who we are and what we're trying to accomplish.

NMSL&RHS Presidential Awards
Uniform Patches Worn With Pride

Rattus Fovea (Pit Rat)

Awarded to select crew members for volunteering long hours of untiring, dedicated and exceptional service in the harsh conditions that exist in the service pit underneath the locomotive.

Rattus Praefurnium (Furnace i.e. "Boiler" Rat)

Awarded to anyone who worked on or within the boiler -or- contributed to the thousands of hours spent rust scaling with needle scalers, busting loose staybolt caps, gridding and ultrasounding the boiler, welding on new staybolt caps, tapping for stud repairs, painting at 17 feet in the air, hanging pipes and running boards, building superheater bundles, loading flue tubes, etc. etc. etc. (just about anyone who has ever toiled on the 2926).

The Pig Pen Patch

This coveted award only goes to someone caught getting VERY VERY VERY dirty working on the 2926. Not just a little grease or paint on a finger . . . we mean legendary whole body, head to toe, into your underwear, penetrating everywhere with grit, grease, dirt, filth, muck, etc. on a scale that is unbelievable and hard to define. Only awarded upon the successful petition of the offended work crew to the President.

We hope everyone enjoys this levity as we continue our serious efforts to deliver an operational Class 2900 as soon as it is practical to do so.
