The last of the welding was completed on the pit repair. The locomotive rolled over it and all was quiet again. After a bit of air brake testing she was rolled back over the pit in preparation of reconnecting the 2926 to her tender. They were reconnected along with the water and air lines.
The new souvenir/merchandise store was brought in and assembled on Thursday and Friday. Now it is up to us to do the finish work.
Jacketing crew prepared more templates and fitted fabricated pieces.
The forging crew were perfecting the method for pouring the 2926 badges more efficiently. The 2926 tender plates are still on sale and if you want one, please contact Rick Marsden @ hdric@verizon.net to reserve and pay for your piece. They are very nice heavy pieces. They are made of bronze and are $100 each.
At the end of the day the locomotive and the tender were rolled back into the engine house for the first time in several weeks.
Thanks to all those who donated to the pit repair and those who worked many hours completing the repairs. We are still short several thousand dollars from breaking even on this repair work, so help us out if you can.
Don’t forget to start planning for the open house this year on September 29th, 9-5 with all the same goodies we have each year. Bring your kids, grand kids and of course your camera. A fun day for all to enjoy!
Media Day is still slated for Wednesday, August 22, which is a normal work day. The engine will be “hot” and people need to stay away from her as the crew will need to be making sure all systems are working. It won’t be a normal work day. There’s a possibility that the engine might roll out at 6:00 am. Stay tuned to your emails to see if that happens for those of you that usually work at the site.
Hope to see everyone at the site, and as usual . . .
Keep on Steamin’,
