Hello everyone. I wanted to bring everyone up to date with the on site activities.
The pit repair is still a few weeks away from completion. We need to adjust the main 14′ H beam rail support so it will center over the vertical structural steel supports.
The aftermath heat here has been mostly unbearable. Volunteers are in most cases leaving early in the afternoon.
Other than the pit there has been some work on the air adjustments for the brake stand.
The jacketing, as usual, is an ongoing exercise of making templates, fabricating the pieces, fitting and painting. all pieces on the boiler are being stored until steam-up.
The electrical department continues installing conduit, supports and pulling wire.
The special fold down pilot’s seat is nearing completion. Foot supports are yet to be designed and installed. Heavy helper springs were added last week to assist deploying and stowing the seat.
One enjoyable day was had Saturday as we were treated to an ice cream social, complete with Warren’s famous microwave chocolate chip cake with Kahlua and cookies by volunteers. The peach and strawberry was homemade by Wild Bill W. and his wife, Vicki. A nice ending to a hot day and pretty much put an end to Saturday;s work session which climbed to 102 degrees on site.
Marty S. has spent several work sessions cleaning up the inside of the tender and was awarded the coveted “Pig Pen” award. He deserved it after working in that mess.
We have Saturday to look forward to at the site, so if you are in town or anywhere around, come on down and get hot and dirty, and as always . . .
Keep on Steamin’,
