I have a few items to reveal this week.
Our firebrick crew formed around the combustion air inlet tubes and put in place the castable refractory around them.
Repairs are needed at the floor inlet box as much of the metal has wasted and is very thin. Replacement plates were cut Saturday and will be welded in on Wednesday. Remaining refractory can then be cast in the sides.
The 2926 restoration achieved another milestone as the last superheater bundle was installed. Congratulations are due to all those workers involved with this project.
We also removed the blast pipe to replace wasted nuts, bolts and special shaped washers. Water Jet Cutting, Inc. will be providing the washers. All passageways can be inspected since it is out of the way.
Tender letter painting continues which is on schedule to be completed by this years open house. The open house will be September 23rd so spread the word to all your rail fans, neighbors and friends. Flyers are available down at the site if you need some. The usual 9-5 are the hours.
Hope to see everyone at the site this week, and as usual . . .
Keep on Steamin’,
