Work Session Status Week Ending 04/18/2015

We had an abbreviated work week. Saturday the 2926 Society entertained the AAPRCO folks on site. They toured the restoration site and observed volunteers working on the engine and marveled at the progress achieved since their last visit.

The rail car owners were provided a barbeque lunch complete with pulled pork, brisket, potato salad, slaw and baked beans. The meal was finished off with various homemade cakes provided by one of our volunteers made in his microwave. Specially marked and shaped 2926 sugar cookies were also handed out and a box sent back to their passenger cars for their enjoyment. Funds for this occasion were derived from private funds and donations received for this event. We all look forward to the day when many of these cars will be pulled by the 2926.

A few of us were given a basic overview of a typical rail car inspection when the consist was being put together. Thanks to Rob Mangels for taking the extra time showing us the inspection process.

Earlier in the week more castle nuts in various locations were cotter pinned as needed.

The machine shop continues to turn out air brake lever pins and bushings. Brass caps for testing were also fabricated.

Flexible staybolt sleeve plugs were being torqued and marked as such.

Welding of jacketing bolts continued as well as superheater pipe fabrications.

More broken stud bolts were removed and the boiler shell threads were re-tapped to remove any leftover material.

As a reminder there will be a New Member Orientation on Saturday, April 25th at 9:00 AM. Summer hours will begin May 2nd at 7:30 AM. Weather is looking good for the coming week and I hope to see you at the site. And as always . . .
