Other than the normal on-going projects, volunteers were busy tightening some bolts to stop slow fuel oil leaks at the front of the tender.
Workers also completed the shimming process for both of the steam valve piston shafts.
Several men hoisted the heavy timing rods into place on the engineer’s side. These included the radius rod, union link and lifting link. One of the larger pins will need to be replaced due to wear.
The lower air brake stand support was being altered to more fit our requirements.
Painting began on previously reconditioned lubrication distribution blocks. One side of each received a fresh coat of paint. The other sides will be done this week.
The pilot lubricator block was removed, disassembled, cleaned and inspected.
Our monthly Membership meeting is this Saturday beginning at 8:30 AM. Those that can come early to help set up chairs is welcome.
There will be a New Member Orientation class on April 25th at 9:00 AM. Anyone that wishes to attend this class, please let our Chief Safety Officer, Jon Spargo, know. His email is Kc5ntw@sdc.org.
Workers need to be aware of several groups touring the site in the next couple of weeks. Also remember the summer hours begin May 2nd at 7:30 AM. Visitors should plan to arrive from 8:00 – 2:00, but if you do come, please call first as we have inclement weather and close early.
Our windy spring is back to NM, but temps should be nice to work in. Hope to see everyone at the site this week, and as always . . .
Keep on Steamin’,
