Another restoration milestone was achieved this week. On Thursday at 1:00 PM all of the boiler tubes had been seal-welded and re-expanded. We are now taking steps to seal off various boiler openings.
The 29 remaining full replacement flexible staybolts have been ordered and are currently being fabricated by outside contractors.
Men are working to remove the boiler studs which secure the throttle quadrant. The stud hole threads are being re-tapped.
More lagging bolts were being welded on the large firebox side sheet repair. Very few are left to be done.
Two blind flanges were turned on the lathe to prepare them for gaskets.
Lubrication lines are still being flushed out with our in-house fabricated electric pump.
The air filter piping for the air compressors was installed. Lubrication reservoirs were filled and both compressors were exercised. Shaft lubrication doughnuts were also fabricated.
The machine shop was busy fabricating stud bolts. The workers also worked on more air brake lever bushings and reconditioning the holes they occupy.
About this time each year I get inquiries about the summer hour change. Normally the summer hours begin the first work session in May. This year it is Saturday May the 2nd, which will begin the 7:30 AM start time. Mark your calendars now!
Weather is cooperating nicely so far so I hope to see everyone on the site this week. And as always . . .
Keep on Steamin’,
