We hope everyone had an enjoyable and safe Thanksgiving.
The number of volunteers on site this week was less due to the holiday week, but the diehards soldiered on.
We received the heat treated brake lever pins and bushings last week. Their dimensions changed a bit so adjustments will be performed. More pins and bushings are being fabricated and will be heat treated as well.
Unable to locate the proper size elevator bolts the machinists fabricated them from carriage bolts. These bolts are used to secure the sacrificial wooden beam supporting the large brake arms on each side.
The donated dynamo cleaning was completed and painted. Inspection and testing will begin Saturday.
An upper cab support had to be removed to gain access to one of the flexible staybolt sleeves in need of repair. It was very stubborn to remove but eventually manpower and leveraged persuasion won out. It has been thoroughly cleaned and painted.
Installation of the copper seals for the flexible staybolt plugs began Saturday. Initial hammer testing of the staybolts also began last week.
The brake stand lower support was test-fit which revealed an adjustment will be required to one of the replacement cab supports. This is necessary to provide space when the boiler heats up and expands rearward.
The annual Christmas card mailing has gone out along with the membership renewal notice. The artwork was done by our own Gayle Van Horn. Full size prints of the painting are available at our merchandise store. There are many expensive projects left to be performed in 2015, so if you are able please give the 2926 an extra monetary gift this year.
Also, if you have moved or changed your address and/or email you need to contact us through our website to let us know or through this email. Some people move or change these things and we aren’t able to get in touch with you and you may not receive our mailings. We’ll try to remind you throughout the year.
Hope to see those that can work this week. Saturday might have some rain, but we’ll see what the weather does when Saturday arrives, and as always . . .
Keep on Steamin’,
