This week work resumed fabricating superheater bundles. Carlos O. returned to work as well as most of his assistants. As of this writing all of the superheater bundle sponsorships have been sold. Various other sponsorships will be available in the future so monitor this weekly update and for our website for upcoming details.
A new retaining sleeve for the engineer’s side eccentric rod arrived Friday and was immediately installed with the rod.
Safety wiring began on the side rod Timken bearing retaining nuts. This project in itself will require many volunteer hours to complete.
Elsewhere various other fasteners were being secured with cotter pins cut to length and bent over as needed.
Lubrication lines are being checked for obstructions and old oil by forcing compressed air through each open-ended line.
The machine shop continues to repair various worn parts. Workers are engaged in cutting bushings for the various air brake lever pins and fabricating the worn pins also. The first batch of those have been sent off for heat treating.
The fire box door was cleaned of rust and crud then a shiny coat of high temperature paint was applied. It’s support frame is also being cleaned. The small flip door is missing so a drawing was done for a replacement. The tool shelf on the backhead was also removed, painted and reinstalled.
All three mechanical lubricators were removed from storage and a thorough cleaning of each ensued.
The next safety and new member orientation class will be held November 22, 2014 at 9:00 am in the Reefer Office. No other class is planned until early next year, sometime in mid February. Our annual membership refresher will be sometime in January. Stay tuned for more info on that.
This Saturday is our monthly General Membership meeting at 8:30 am. Come early to help set up chairs if possible and dress accordingly for the weather.
Hope to see you at the site this week, and as always . . .
Keep on Steamin’,
