As far as work on the locomotive goes, we’re on a short hiatus with the engine and tender parked next door at our neighbor’s while our contractor, Klinger Construction LLC, completes the desperately needed track and roadbed repair. With all that going on, we didn’t want our workers to get in the way of the construction crew while they tried to do their job. We’re still planning on erecting a building at some point to protect 2926 from the elements and other sources of harm, so it just made sense to get the track right before putting a cover over it. The track repair should be completed in the next couple of weeks and we’ll get rolling on the restoration full-steam ahead again.
Meanwhile, we did send ambassadors to some local events including National Train Day, but the Board elected not to have the tender towed down to Alvarado Station this year – didn’t want to deal with the logistics (arranging for an engine and crew to pick it up, buying insurance, finding a way to have it NOT be “beached” where it is right now). Instead, it was felt our resources were better spent on other problems at hand.
Still, plenty of activities going on, so be sure to check out this week’s Photo Album, April’s Monthly Minutes and our First-Quarter 2014 News Letter
Hope to see you at the site, and as always . . .
