Work Session Status Week Ending 10/26/2013

Much of the work the past several weeks has focused on preparing the flexible staybolt sleeves for repair. Old wasted sleeves are continually being removed while their replacements are being cut to fit and beveled.

Elsewhere on site driver brake shoes were installed for eventual air cylinder testing. Trailing truck air brake cylinders are being installed as work space became available.

Hydro test devices are being fabricated to isolate various systems during the eventual hydro boiler test.

More piping is being removed from storage, inspected and cleared as needed. Pipe brackets associated with these pipes are also being located.

Old electrical cab wiring is being removed from their conduits which will be replaced with fresh wire.

We are nearing the end of thread chasing flexible staybolt sleeves deemed good to return to service. Our “smaller in size” volunteers have been squeezing themselves between the boiler and frame to service these flexies.

The engineer’s side driver flange lubricator was removed Saturday and received a thorough cleaning. New mounting bolts were located to replace the originals which were too long and had been bent to fit.

Welch’s Boiler Service plans to be on site Friday morning between 8:00 – 8:30. More flexi sleeves will be welded on to the firebox.
