This week was my first week back from being sick the previous two. Thanks to Bob D. for standing in for me.

Work progressed on several projects.

Three slack adjuster rods were cleaned, painted and installed.

Several more pieces of sheet metal were fabricated and custom fit to the areas adjacent to the steam cylinders and exhaust piping.

One of the air brake reservoirs was successfully hydro tested and the second one was prepared for testing this coming week.

Work continued removing wasted flexible staybolt plugs while reusable plugs are being run through a custom made thread chaser. Flexi sleeves which are not wasted are being reconditioned also with a custom made tap.

Timing gear supports are being cleaned and prepared for paint. Air brake piping on the engineer’s side was also being restored, painted and installed.

Bell ringer rope guides are being fabricated in the machine shop.

Fireman’s side trailing truck is being cleaned and prepped for paint.

The cab metal parts are being taped off prior to painting the wood.

Saturday saw a light workforce due to vacations and a model train show in town (Rails Along the Rio Grande or RARG). Our 2926 group was represented there with a booth in the main corridor of the hotel where it was held. Souvenirs were sold and restoration information was passed out. Show attendees were invited to visit the restoration site where close to 40 folks, young and old, toured the 2926 site and many new friends were made.

It will be mighty hot this week, so there might be some shortened days ahead. Close to 100° will be the temps and picking up tools after being in that kind of heat can burn your hands if not careful. Be prepared with sunscreen and lots of water. I am considering foregoing lunch and going home early.
