This week was a battle with the elements.
Wednesday we started out with a breezy morning and performed an air test on the boiler to check on repairs from last week. We’re still having problems sealing the line from the turret to the injector valve union joints. The rest of the leaks appear to be holding. As the minutes wore on the wind became much stronger and gusting to 65mph. Our crew left at 11:30 that day.
Saturday morning brought us a light drizzle of rain during our monthly membership meeting. Just 30 minutes later the rain had mostly subsided and the sun came out providing us great sunny weather until it was time to go home. The drizzle started up again.
Another air test with the same results. Wednesday we will again try to resolve the injector pipe leak.
In the cab the holes were drilled in the cab floor for the ATS control box. (The new Mexico owned track still incorporates the older system.) The engineer’s seat was reinstalled.
A couple of original rigid staybolts were fizzing a bit so they were effectively caulked.
The electricians are still running conduit for various applications. Also the other dynamo was reassembled, and all that is left is some wiring to be reconnected so it can be bench tested.
Our meeting Saturday was the announcement that our 2019 election nominations for the Board are now open for two positions. One being Rick K. and the other open. The nominations must be in by the end of May so we can send ballots if necessary. In order to vote or run you must be a member in good standing, and that means your membership must be up to date.
Madam Secretary hasn’t had a chance to send out emails to those of you that haven’t paid for this year. A friendly reminder will be going out soon. Again, if you think you’re one of them, please check with us at this email to see if you’ve paid for the year. Remember, your membership goes from the last quarter of the year to January of the next year. So if you paid the last quarter of 2018, your membership is good until 1/1/2020.
Hope to see those that can make it at the site this week, and as always . . .
Keep on Steamin’,
Rick & Gail Kirby, CMO & Secretary
