This week we enjoyed better working conditions as to the weather.
More electrical conduit was installed on both sides of the engine.
The forward dynamo was installed and the necessary piping connected. The aft dynamo is not yet ready to be installed.
The fuel line from the tender was shortened a bit to correct the misalignment. Now all the vertical pipes are straight when sitting on straight track. The oil steam heat line was also worked on.
The forge martyrs are still busy pouring brass bell ringer guides and tender number plates.
Work began on fabricating a slide-out support tray for the small generator which will mount under the cab on the fireman’s side.
Various points on the engine were once again lubricated.
The brass adapters for the water gauge glasses, which leaked a bit, are being fabricated off site. Luckily we had the materials on hand to have them made.
The side rods received some cleaning due to the inclimate weather and blowing dust.
As with most work sessions there is always a little infrastructure work going on. A new locking mechanism was installed on the east gate where undesirables cut the heavy chain securing the gate. Plans are to install the same type electric locking device the other two entrances have.
More lighting was installed in the tool crib and an electric hoist was installed on big bird (crane) for items too heavy to man-handle, but don’t require a three ton chain hoist. An extension control cable was added so it can be operated from the ground. A longer lift cable was also installed.
Weather is a bit unsettled until the weekend, but hope to see those that can make it at the site, and as always . . .
Keep on Steamin’,
