February 16, 2015
Wednesday was spent preparing the work area in the firebox and smokebox for the tube and flue rolling contractor. Confined space requirements for rescue were set up in case of an emergency.
Saturday a rescue refresher class was held after the member safety refresher class. A new Safety Orientation Class will be held on February 28th at 9:00 AM at the site for new members. Remember, if you plan to work on the site and you don’t live in town, you must come to a Safety Orientation in town before you can complete an Annual Refresher Course thereafter by email. If anyone has any questions regarding that they should email Jon Spargo, Safety Officer. You can contact me if you need his email.
Elsewhere on site superheater pipe fabrication continued. Those are being stored in the container which once stored all the flues and tubes. Tube rolling began today.
The machine shop was fabricating alignment tools to properly shim the steam shuttle valve slide. Those items were being put to use on Saturday. The fireman’s side is being done first.
Various parts are being installed in preparation for the inevitable boiler hydro test. Copper rings are still being installed under the flexible staybolt sleeve plugs.
This week should be nice weather unless Saturday brings us some wet weather. Not sure about that this far in advance, just something to watch. Hope to see everyone on the site this week . . . and as always,
Keep on Steamin’,
