February 25, 2019
Over the last several work sessions the weather has been such that our work sessions have been, to say the least, not conducive for working outside. One day we heated the engine house and performed minor jobs inside.
Other workers stayed in the Reefer Office and participated in the newly compiled engine move procedure class.
This past Friday a snow storm passed through dumping various amounts of snow in our state. Saturday was very cold with a slight breeze, but the sun came out and melted most of the snow at our site. Workers cleared the remaining snow and the engine emerged from it’s cozy house for another work session, albeit a cold one.
More jacketing joint straps were fabricated. It looks like we will be making another trip to the paint shop in the near future.
The forge preheating tubes finally burned out and new ones were cut and the pieces were welded together. The forge is back up and running again.
The last of the 5/8″ tubing was bent and installed to the fireman’s side sight glass. We should now be able to do an air test to check all the various leaks we had during our last steam up in August. We need to thank Swagelok for “loaning” us their tube bender for free. Their office out of AZ had to give the final permission to do so, but they let us use it Saturday and it was returned today. Thank you Swagelok!
Speaking of donations, W.W. Grainger came through big time with a $900+ donation of goods we needed for our site in the way of safety items. A big thank you to them as well!
This past week I received word the electrical control cabinet for the tool car generator was completed and ready to ship along with the HEP pass-through kit and cabling. Things are getting expensive folks, so if you have any extra dollars laying around please send them our way. They are tax deductible for those that itemize.
And lastly, if you have not paid your 2019 memberships, they are actually due by the end of March. We try to give everyone some leeway time to get those memberships caught up. Please don’t wait or Madam Secretary will be sending out “friendly reminders” to those that are behind. If you do not know, please ask and she’ll let you know by replying to this email. There are still a lot of people that haven’t paid. If it goes past March and you don’t respond to emails, you’ll be placed on the “lapsed list” and receive no further emails, newsletters or Christmas cards. We depend on you to help us to run our 2926 organization and appreciate every one of you! We thank you in advance.
Hope to see those in town at the site this week, and as always . . .
Keep on Steamin’,
