Much time was spent preparing the east end of our site for the demo contractors scheduled for this Wednesday. Several extremely heavy pieces of old rail had to be moved mostly by hand, pry bars and pipe rollers. Several pieces of railroad ties were securely fastened to the track ties creating a bridge for workers and equipment. Our plastic palace (portable toilet) had to be relocated. More “stuff” will need to be relocated prior to the beginning of our Engine House construction.
Air brake component mounting and planning continued this week. Specialized fittings and valves are being procured.
Cab work is ongoing as workers fabricate and install various pipe systems.
Air brake radiator piping was installed as well as the 3″ cold water supply pipe.
Tooling is being developed to new copper seals on the washout plugs.
Work on restoring the steam fountain cover has begun. When removed protective paint was brushed on to retard any further deterioration of the metal. Workers began removing the paint in preparation for a new coat of shiny black paint.
As usual protective coating was applied to previously insulated pipes.
Thanks go out to Bob D. for filling in for me while I was out of town on Saturday.
Hope to see everyone at the site this week, and as always . . .
Keep on Steamin’,
