Another Saturday awaited our volunteers this week. The men worked through the heat fabricating another bundle of superheaters.
The backhead overlay welds were ultra sounded to recheck the areas in question.
Overlay welding was performed on existing flexible staybolt sleeves which were slightly wasted at their filet welds.
Brass lubrication fittings are being fabricated to replace those not reusable on the trailing truck.
More parts were cut from plate which will be used on an in-house designed cylinder hone.
Track work resumed this past week as crews began adjusting grades on both sides of the pit.
We took measurements inside the firebox to determine the length of all the replacement staybolts.
Wednesday I filled in as the Society representative during the track work. As I walked across the dirt areas I felt compelled to measure its temperature. Our laser temperature device indicated a surprising 140°. Summer is definitely here!
Hope to see everyone next Saturday to continue what work we can do on the engine and superheater bundles . . . and as usual,
Keep on Steamin’,
