This week the Toy Train Operating Society (TTOS) paid us a visit. Around 40 folks toured the site and ate their box lunches.
Workers fabricated a new rod roller and hung the power reverse control rod then connected both ends. Its lubricator was also cleaned and serviced. Using the control handle its operation was demonstrated for the TTOS members.
Also this week our CBS affiliate, KRQE Channel 13, was onsite to do a piece on the restoration and provide a notice regarding the GoFundMe Engine House program.
More bevel weld grinding was done on both top and bottom of the sand dome. Repair materials were procured for the wasted metal areas.
We are still cleaning parts, painting them along with installing new bushings in various air brake levers.
Broken stud bolt removal is ongoing while the machine shop fabricates the replacements.
Layout work for fabricating the 2nd dynamo support bracket is well on its way.
Volunteers are removing the brass connectors from the many flexible lubrication hoses. New hose material will be procured for the salvaged ends.
Several volunteer hours were spent rehabbing our entry gate which had began to sag and was difficult to open and close. Its main post was straightened and reinforced.
This Saturday a New Member orientation will take place in the reefer at 9:00 AM in the Reefer (Refrigerator Car) Office.
Open House is upon us. This year it’s September 26th from 9-4. We’ve been approved for additional parking this year, so people won’t have to look for parking. We will set up during the week, go shopping for food on Friday and will need help to set up for parking. We need about six people to volunteer Friday the 25th to help Frank G. and Ken D. set up the additional parking area. Others can help set up for the actual open house that day after shopping.
Don’t forget about the GoFundMe Engine House program, Albertson’s Community program and Smith’s or Kroger(or any of their affiliates) as well. You can sign up for Smith’s on their Community website and start earning points towards our organization and not loose any points. We have cards at the site for Albertson’s if you don’t have yours.
Hope to see everyone at the site this week, and as always . . .
Keep on Steamin’,
