Most of Wednesday’s work session was devoted to returning our restoration site to just that.
Items we used for the open house were packed away and stored for another year.
Some work continued as the final parts were assembled for the steam cylinder honing device. After a minor design modification both cylinders were completed Saturday.
The hone device utilizes the crosshead to move it back and forth in the cylinder. Once complete the drive motor was removed from the crosshead slide.
Volunteers immediately began installing the remaining two side rods on the fireman’s side. By the end of the day the side rods on both sides were installed.
As with most work sessions flexible staybolt sleeve welding continued bringing us one day closer to finishing that portion of the restoration.
More work was done in the merchandise store. After one open house we realized the space needed lighting. Florescent strip lights were procured and installed. Some white paint was also applied to the interior.
We went over 110,000 volunteer hours at the end of September. Just for the open house preparation on Friday and then the open house hours on Saturday were over 400 volunteer hours! Nice work everyone that pitched in to help, even our out of town guests!
Saturday we will have a General Meeting at 8:30 am and immediately following there will be a New Member Orientation in the Reefer Office. We are also changing to our winter hours on Wednesday, October 15th to 9:00 am.
Hope to see you at the site, and as always . . .
Keep on Steamin’,
