December 9, 2014
After the turkey day week things were back to normal at the 2926. Mother Nature is still being kind to us and work resumes as usual.
Superheater fabrication continued with that crew back from having some time off.
The firebox door frame had been painted and bolted into place.
The superheater storage container was cleared of unnecessary items to make more room for fabricated superheater assemblies.
Copper sealing rings are being inserted under the flexible staybolt plugs. Once they are all in the plugs will be tightened.
The machine shop continues to fabricate brake arm bushings and pins.
The two air reservoir tanks were removed from their storage area and placed under the canopy so they could be painted. Most of their surfaces were painted. This week the undersides will be turned up and the painting will be completed.
The upper cab attachment brackets were removed revealing the attaching stud bolts have suffered various degrees of metal wasting. Two were removed and the boiler threads were chased with a boiler tap.
The recently donated dynamo was tested with air pressure. It easily made 32 volts, however we are in the process of checking the turbine and the internal bearings.
Our regular monthly meeting will be held this Saturday, December 13, 2014, at 8:30 a.m. Please plan to attend.
Hope to see you at the site this week, and as always . . .
Keep on Steamin’,
