December 9, 2013
Old man winter has taken up residence here in “The Land of Enchantment”. Morning temperatures have plummeted to below 20°.
Many of our dedicated volunteers are braving the temperatures and continue working on 2926.
Wednesday morning one of the driver air brake slack adjusters was adjusted as needed then the locomotive was moved forward to enable work to be performed on the trailing truck air brake linkage assemblies.
More flexible staybolt sleeve welding was accomplished as well as more wasted sleeve removal on the fireman’s side.
Leak repairs on the independent air brake piping continues. The remaining leaks are at the supply fittings at each cylinder. R&R of the threaded joints is ongoing. New rubber gaskets will be installed.
Several more cab parts and along with various areas on the chassis were cleaned and prepped for paint.
Two pieces of steel were cut for the radial buffer fabrication. Those pieces were ground smooth then beveled for welding.
The last general membership meeting for 2013 will be held this coming Saturday at 8:30am. The morning will be cold so dress warm.
Hope to see you at the site, and as usual . . .
Keep on Steamin’,
