The tool car work in Ohio continues as the various truck parts are dye-penetrate checked and any repairs completed. Two coil springs for the trucks have been ordered due to excessive wear and one which was broken. This will be shipped direct to Ohio.
The under car generator for the tool car is ready to ship to Albuquerque once they receive our payment. Our local freight company will pick up in Pennsylvania. Work is underway at our site relocating tools and equipment to make way for its delivery and safe storage in one of the containers.
George D. and his merry band of assistants have taken on the job of reorganizing the tool room and will be tasked with the official duties as Tool Miester.
Radial buffer work continues and we think it will finally be finished this coming Wednesday. The engine and tender will be separated so we will be able to check the fit.
The electricians have been installing conduit on the running boards to illuminate the running gear and compressor governors for servicing during night running as needed.
Last Wednesday we received four new boiler water level glass valves. The old ones were deemed unsafe. The old ones have been removed and the installation of the upgraded valves has begun.
Something to put on your calendar is the Annual Safety Refresher Class. The 2019 class will be held on January 19th beginning at 0900 at the Local 412 Plumbers and Steamfitters Union Hall located at 510 San Pedro SE. It is on the southeast corner of San Pedro and Zuni. Please arrive early to sign in and consume your favorite burritos! Parking is very limited as well!
All the Christmas cards have been sent out and some have already been returned undeliverable. If you have moved since last January and not notified us please do so by email, mail or a call to us at 505-246-2926. We are again entering an expensive phase in the restoration as finish work and testing will begin in the new year.
If you can, please make a donation over and above your normal membership renewal. More funds will also be needed when the tool car arrives next year.
If you haven’t checked out the web site lately, please check it out. We have a campaign to sell our calendars at a lower rate than we have been selling them. There’s no maximum limit on selling them as it says on the web site. Please buy them out before year’s end! Nice Christmas gifts. Also the 2926 tender castings are still available for $110 for shipped castings or $100 for in town pick-up. Please make sure we have addresses where they are to be shipped if applicable.
Hope to see everyone at the site that’s available, and as always . . .
Keep on Steamin’,
