December 29, 2013
Our last work session of 2013 was a productive one accompanied by an unusually large number of visitors.
Two more Franklin compensator and snubber assemblies were removed, cleaned and reinstalled.
Work on the final pieces of the radial buffer continued as tack welds on the center portion were ground smooth for later weld out. Final machining of the two side wedges is almost complete.
More flexible staybolt sleeve welding continued along with thread chasing of usable sleeves in the tight area between the boiler and the frame.
Electrical conduit work resumed as all the various boxes and brackets are being located, cleaned and checked off on the drawings.
The last of the pipe fittings were installed on the trailing truck air brake cylinders. Once the brake shoes are procured we can test the system.
The backup duplex water pump is about ready for reassembly. The many parts that make up the pump have been cleaned and inspected.
Various lube lines are also being located for cleaning and reinstalling.
As a reminder please let us know if you plan to attend the winter get together on Jan. 10th at 6 pm. Also, the site is closed Wednesday, Jan. 1st. We will resume work the following Saturday, Jan. 4th. Hope you all have a safe New Year.
Hope to see you at the site, and as usual . . .
Keep on Steamin’,
