Volunteers continued working hard on various projects throughout the week.
Broken stud bolts were being removed, replacements fabricated and installed.
After a good cleaning of the air reservoir clamps various repairs were required. Inferior welds were ground out and re-welded along with new bolts.
Engineer side trailing truck brake parts were being disassembled for repairs just as the fireman’s side received. New bushings and pins have been fabricated and will be installed. The slack adjuster was removed and worn pin holes were repaired.
Workers began removing the tightening nuts fabricated on the side of the 29 new flexible staybolts. The ends will be ground smooth.
A temporary wooden work platform was constructed at the backhead for ease of entering and exiting the firebox while remaining repairs are completed.
All of the chassis lubrication distribution boxes have now been installed and most of the connections have been done.
Various other lubrication parts are being flushed out to remove old lubricants and sludge.
Workers removed the speed indicator pick-up wheel from behind #4 driver. Initial clean-up has begun and also the old cracked flex hose was removed from the wheel housing.
The society held its Annual Membership meeting Saturday. Two current board members were re-elected for three more years. Dave Van De Valde was announced along with myself. The Board of Director’s also voted to retain all officers in their current position.
Hope to see everyone at the site this week, and as always . . .
