This week we began fabricating the #1 driver air brake slack adjuster. Parts for the turnbuckle were welded together and the main shaft was machined to accept the yoke end of the assembly.
Also the 6 & 8 inch boiler feed piping is being fit into place. The 8″ piece was refabricated due to severe metal wasting.
Progress continues on the ongoing projects such as custom cutting and fitting of various sheet metal parts near the front of the locomotive, flexible staybolt and sleeve thread chasing, miscellaneous parts clean-up and painting.
Research regarding all the timing gear connecting and reach rod bearings has been a project all by itself. Locating the exact replacements is becoming difficult. Pre-lubricated bronze bushings may be an alternative.
Cab wood painting is almost complete, at least the first coat. Also the floor boards were laid out, cut to length and the ends were treated. Next they will be put through a planer. The remnant pieces will be used for the window frames.
This coming Saturday is the Official Annual General Meeting of the Society. The results of the hotly contested election of two board member positions will be revealed. In as much as there were only two candidates running there should be no surprises. It will start at 8:00 am sharp on the site.
See you on site this week, and as usual . . .
Keep on Steamin’,
