Work Session Status Week Ending 02/16/2013

We had two good work sessions last week.

Cab woodwork continued as Don Mac and Morris D. were Randy’s assistants this week. Discussions began as to which type of wood will be used on the cab floor.

Dave V. completed the machine work required for the heavy square flanges for the exhaust piping.

Ken D. and Dick P. finished prepping the root valve flange and installed it on the smoke box along with its associated piping inside the smoke box.

John G. and Pat H. completed the connector work needed to reinstall the connector yokes on three driver air brake assemblies. John also installed the last two grease fittings for two side rod bearings.

As Anthony P., Ian B., Ron T. and John T. removed more flexibolt plugs from the top areas of the boiler, Henry R., Dr. Mike, Ward Mc. and Roger J. continued cleaning and restoring them.

George D. ground out more bad counter-weight welds on the engineer’s side and beveled them prior to welding later next week. Bill Mc. and his wife, Jane ground down smooth other completed counter-weight welds done by Carlos O. They also put new shield material on our welding screens.

Besides giving tours, Dr. Mike and Nat P. removed the steam fountain attachment brackets from the top of the boiler. Gail K. removed the rust and crud and gave them a coat of paint.

Bob D. and Dave V. finalized the measurements for the new copper seals needed for the flexible staybolts. The order will go in this week.

Dave T. and Nat P. finished cleaning, lubricating and installing the two reverse gear transverse rod saddle bearings.

Pete A. set up the souvenir store and repaired the cart which suffered damage due to extreme winds last week. He also spent time removing rust and crud from flexibolt sleeves.

Wednesday may be another bad windy day so check your emails before leaving your house Wednesday morning. We may open, but it’s supposed to get really windy and cold later in the day, so an early day at best if anything.
