This past week we continued to remove and replace various broken stud bolts as well as jacketing support bolts.
All the parts associated with the firebox damper have been reconditioned and reinstalled with a newly fabricated damper plate.
Superheater hydro support parts are being fabricated in preparation for the future testing of the superheater bundles.
Volunteers working on the lubrication systems installed a longer electric motor for the flushing equipment. Various lubrication blocks are being removed, thoroughly cleaned and reinstalled.
Various valve control handles are being painted.
Reconditioning of the sanddome began this week. After careful cleaning of its interior it revealed several holes in the inside of the metal floor. Support bolts were cut so the top can be removed.
Parts cleaning and painting continues as usual.
Flexible staybolt work continues. The last of the replacement bolts have been fitted so they can be cut to their final length. The ends are also being prepped for a permanent plug.
Workers had to do a little infrastructure work this week. The decade old a/c unit for the reefer office quit on us so a new one was procured and installed.
As most of you know the GoFundMe campaign has begun. We wish to thank all those who have already donated funds for the engine shelter/house. We encourage everyone to download the request letter and view the short video. Send it to all your friends, family and/or business associates via any social media at your disposal. Please support this effort and be as generous as possible. We desperately need this shelter as the engine is nearing completion. We need all our members and supporters to be involved with this effort.
This coming Saturday is July 4th. Most members voted not to work, however, anyone that wishes to be on the site and greet any potential visitors are welcome to do so. Someone will be there to open the gates at 7:30 AM.
On a sad note this past week one of our longtime members and past officer, Marlin, passed away. We learned from his wife, Barbara, when it happened. For the past several years he was unable to be on the site, but still assisted the society from home as best he could. He will be missed. His memorial service will be this Thursday, July 2nd, at Daniel’s Funeral Home at 2:00 PM. The address is 3310 Sara Rd SE, Rio Rancho, NM. No internment will take place. I would suggest that the 2926 local group that can go wear suitable 2926 outfits, shirts, hats, etc. I think the family would appreciate that remembrance on Marlin’s behalf.
See you on the site this week, and as always . . .
