Work Session Status Week Ending 08/01/2015

The never ending job of cleaning parts and painting continued this week. We are however close to the end of that work.

The old foot boards have all been laid out and the necessary bolt holes have been identified. The next step will be to transfer these locations to the replacement foot boards.

Work is ongoing pertaining to the broken stud bolts that require removal and replacement.

Sand dome repair work also continues as weld bevels were ground on both halves of the dome. A protective coating was applied to the top half. Repair materials for the bottom half will be picked up Wednesday.

The machine shop has been busy fabricating the stud bolts and brass test plugs.

Trailing truck air brake levers are being fitted with new bushings to fit the new pins.

Several of the long control rods for the bell and whistle were bent many years ago as various individuals that climbed on and around the locomotive during its life in the park. Workers are removing the bends so they will work properly.

Reassembly of the second dynamo began Saturday. All internal wiring has been rewound.

There will be a New Member orientation Saturday, August 15th beginning at 9:00 AM. The August General meeting is this coming Saturday, August 8th at 7:30 AM. Please come early to help put out chairs.

The GoFundMe project for the Engine House/Garage has raised a little over $11,000 from 66 contributors since its inception. Each month we average between 45 and 50 thousand visits to our website via all sources of social media. We also have about 350 members. If we are to meet our goal to build a garage for the locomotive we need participation from everyone who is interested in protecting this locomotive from thieves and the elements.
