Now that the hot water boiler feed piping has been completed, work on the root valve and it’s related piping has begun. All of it will need to be installed prior to the final installation of the feed pipe.
The two replacement threaded rods for the air brake slack adjusters arrived last week. Each one is being rounded to fit the concave blocks. The other end will have a nut welded on. Work on the trailing truck slack adjuster turnbuckle will resume this week.
The engineer’s side inner cab bracket fabrication resumed this week. All the welding is complete except for the adjusting spacers. The mounting holes will be drilled this week. Welding of the fireman’s side bracket will comence this week.
The machinists fabricated an adapter for an annular bit to fit a 1/2″ drill motor. The annular will be used to cut down the remaining fillet weld around the original flexible staybolt sleeves. This will be the last step prior to welding the new sleeves to the boiler. Removing wasted sleeves is an ongoing project.
Various painting projects continue. We need to get as much of this painting done before the cold weather arrives. If you are looking for something to do, we need painters!
This coming Saturday we will hold the regular membership meeting for August. It will begin at 8:00 sharp. Hope to see you there, and as always . . .
Keep on Steamin’,
