More parts cleaning and painting work was done this week. The area under the rear of the cab was cleaned and prepped for paint. The large exhaust piping and the surrounding areas were also painted.
Trailing truck air brake levers were being removed for cleaning and inspection Saturday.
A depth gauge was fabricated and was used to monitor the drilling of the telltale holes in the large air brake reservoir tank. The small tank will be drilled this week. Once finished they both can be painted.
Re-piping of the hydraulic press was completed Saturday. A sheet metal cover will be fabricated for it to shed any rain water.
Still more wasted flexible staybolt sleeves were removed. Once all the smaller size sleeves are prepped, the replacement ones will be welded on.
Reusable staybolt plugs and sleeves were reconditioned.
The small recirculating pump which will be used during initial firing of the boiler was test run this week. Compressed air was used to power up the pump which ran smoothly. The search is on for the small check valve springs located on the water side of the pump. If anyone knows of a place that might have these springs please let us know. They are stainless steel compression springs.
The weather is supposed to be cooler this week, that remains to be seen, so come on down and get dirty! Hope to see you at the site, and as always . . .
Keep on Steamin’,
