I haven’t written a report in a while. I came down with an awful cold and was away from the site for about three weeks. Then my wife, Madam Secretary, caught it from me. Both of us are back on the job now.
Brake hanger pins and bushings have been fabricated and installed where originals showed considerable wear.
The saturated steam pipes from the steam dome to the turret have finally been installed. The turret had to be loosened in order to install those pipes, meaning the injector steam supply line had to be removed from the turret then reinstalled.
Other volunteers have been finishing up the MU conduit, cabling and terminating the 27 wires in each of the MU receptacles.
Insulation and shiny black jacketing is an ongoing project at the smoke box and steam cylinder area. The fabrication of the jacketing panels used the old rusted panels a templates and several of the new panels are having to be adjusted to fit here and there.
Forge testing is progressing satisfactorily as our workers have been melting scrap copper and pouring the liquid metal into ingots. These ingots will be eventually made into brass and applied to the radial buffer.
The site currently is hosting an Albuquerque Trolley Company event called the Pinon Express on various evenings when Santa and Mrs. Claus are the main event. Tickets are still available for most nights. I believe they are found out of the Hotel Albuquerque or on their website.
Our tool car in OH has now been moved from the storage siding into the shop area where work will begin. First up, the truck inspections. As I have mentioned in the past please donate to this GoFundMe tool car program to help us out. You can use PayPal or a check directly to our PO Box. All can be found on our website at www.2926.us. If you send a check please indicate it’s for the tool car.
The Christmas cards will be going out in the next week or so. Inside you will find a membership renewal reminder. Those who have joined or paid in the last quarter of this year or open house are good until 1/1/19 for membership. However, you may donate any amount you wish either to the tool car or the general fund.
The Annual Safety refresher will be January 15th, so please mark your calendars and plan to attend. The time and place will be forthcoming when a venue has been secured. Also there is a new member orientation on December 16th at 0900 in the Reefer office. If you have been to a new member class recently you don’t have to come to the refresher, unless you’d just like to hear what is happening at one of those meetings.
Weather next week might turn cooler than what we’re used to, but hope to see you at the site anyway, and as always . . .
Keep on Steamin’,
Rick Kirby, CMO
