This past week we took two more side rods to be clear coated then retrieved them on Friday. Side rods have now been installed on drivers 1-2, 2-3 on the fireman’s side and the rod on 1-2 drivers on the engineer’s side. Two more have been prepped for clear coat scheduled this week.
Sheet metal insulation covers are being fabricated to replace those which have mostly rusted away.
Work continues on the cylinder exhaust piping which was stolen. Flanges were bolted in place and a trial fit was performed.
Engineer’s side counterweight crack repair continues and is almost finished. Once they are repaired the remaining side rods can be installed.
Cab wood work on the ceiling and sides is almost finished. Decisions regarding the final wood color will be made shortly.
Flexible staybolt seal cupping tools have been finished. The seals are expected to ship within a few days.
150 new threaded staybolt plugs were received last week. Reconditioning of salvageable ones continues.
Various air and water lines are being cleaned, painted and reinstalled.
Thanks goes out to Bob D. for filling in for me while I was home sick. I know I mentioned that already, but I do appreciate him. Also thanks to Johnny P. for donating materials and labor to replace a 50 some year old power cord for one of our welding machines.
Hope to see you all on site this week and as always . . .
Keep on Steamin’,
